Here are some match day tips for budding soccer coaches
1) Enforce the discipline of players getting to venues on time - make sure they know you are not happy they are late and if necessary bench them as a signal that its not acceptable
2) Enlist help for all the trivial stuff - nets being put up and taken down, respect barriers etc, drinks for the players - get the players parents picking these jobs up.
3) Warm ups - how often do you see teams taking pot shots at the 'keeper as a warm up - ha ha - waste of time. Set up one or two small sided games or some games of keep away so that the players get a good warm up and start to play a bit of soccer too.
4) Keep calm - whatever else happens, its only kids playing football , if you are taking or hiding or the opposition manager is in your face - ignore it - its only kids playing football.
5) Half time talk - keep it brief - chances are they aren't listening anyway!
6) At the end again keep it brief - treat winning and losing in the same way - think about using a player of the match trophy as an incentive - give them a chocolate biscuit and send them on their way. |
